The National and Local Economic Impact of the Coronavirus

Public Invited to talk with economist Jon Haveman, July 9th, 6:00-7:30PM

Nevada City, CA – Renowned economist, Jon Haveman, will present a public talk on the national and local economic impact of the Coronavirus on Thursday, July 9th, from 6:00-7:30PM. The presentation will provide evidence of how the economy is doing, how rapidly we are opening back up, and forecasts of the path forward. The presentation will also provide a discussion of the local economic impact and what the next few months might bring for Nevada County.

Dr. Haveman, the Executive Director of the National Economic Education Delegation, an independent and nonpartisan think tank, is a frequent speaker on the U.S. economy. He will discuss how the coronavirus is affecting the economy, highlighting recent evidence on job losses. We are very excited to have access to his vision as we plan for recovery in our local economy,” added Steve Frisch, President of the Sierra Business Council.

The free public event is sponsored by the County of Nevada, and co-sponsored with the City of Grass Valley, City of Nevada City, the Town of Truckee, Sierra Business Council, and Economic Resource Council.

Following a 45-minute presentation, Dr. Haveman will take Q&A from the audience, moderated by Pascale Fusshoeller of YubaNet, who is producing the event. Questions may be submitted in advance at townhall@yubanet.com.

More about Jon D. Haveman, Ph.D., Executive Director, NEED:

Jon Haveman is the Executive Director of the National Economic Education Delegation (NEED). He is a noted California economist, where he has been practicing since 2001. He has a reputation for providing audiences with edible economic information that is readily useful in their work and private lives.

Prior to starting NEED, Jon was a principal at Marin Economic Consulting, a founding principal at Beacon Economics and the Director of the Economy Program at the Public Policy Institute of California. He has been a Senior Economist with the President’s Council of Economic Advisers, an Economist with the Federal Trade Commission, and held a faculty position in the Business
School at Purdue University.

Dr. Haveman is an expert on economic policy issues and speaks regularly at events across California. His more than 400 talks have covered a wide range of policy topics as well as addressing the state of the U.S., California, and Bay Area economies.

Dr. Haveman holds a Ph.D and Master of Science in Economics from The University of Michigan and a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the University of Wisconsin.
